K-pop superstars BTS have taken an unexpected step in their 2026 U.S. tour planning, choosing Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso as a key stop—over traditional mega-venues in cities like Los Angeles and New York City.

The decision marks a notable shift in touring strategy. Rather than focusing solely on high-capacity stadiums such as SoFi Stadium or MetLife Stadium, BTS is expanding into regions that have historically seen fewer large-scale K-pop performances.

A different kind of stadium experience

With a seating capacity of around 46,000, Sun Bowl Stadium offers a more intimate environment compared to the massive scale of SoFi or MetLife, which can host close to 100,000 fans. Despite the smaller size, the venue still supports BTS’s signature large-scale productions, including immersive 360-degree stage setups.

This balance between scale and accessibility appears central to the group’s approach. The El Paso stop allows fans from South Texas and nearby areas such as New Mexico to attend a stadium-level concert without traveling to major coastal cities.

Strategic expansion beyond major metros

Industry observers view the move as a deliberate effort to broaden BTS’s U.S. footprint. While major cities remain essential to global tours, expanding into secondary markets reflects a growing emphasis on inclusivity and fan accessibility.

“SoFi and MetLife represent scale and prestige in major hubs,” one industry analyst noted. “Sun Bowl represents reach—bringing K-pop to regions that are often overlooked.”

Although ticket sales in El Paso reportedly took longer to sell out compared to other cities, the shows ultimately reached full capacity. This suggests that demand exists beyond traditional markets, even if it builds more gradually.

A historic first for El Paso

The decision also carries symbolic weight. BTS will become the first Korean act to headline Sun Bowl Stadium, marking a milestone not just for the group but for the city’s live entertainment scene.

As K-pop continues to globalize, BTS’s touring choices may signal a broader industry shift—one that prioritizes geographic diversity alongside scale.

U.S. tour schedule continues

Following the El Paso shows, BTS is expected to continue their U.S. leg with additional stadium dates in major cities, including performances at MetLife Stadium in the New York metropolitan area (Aug. 1-2),  Soldier Field in Chicago (Aug. 27-28) and Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles (Sept.). Additional stops across key markets are anticipated to be announced as part of the ongoing ARIRANG World Tour rollout, further expanding the group’s nationwide reach.
