Park Bom of 2NE1 has drawn renewed attention after sharing a handwritten letter praising her fellow members, roughly a month after sparking controversy with remarks perceived as targeting bandmate Sandara Park.

On April 17, Park posted the letter on her social media, opening with a direct appeal: “Please let go of the drug-related talk,” referencing past issues that have followed her public image. She described the message as a final attempt to address her thoughts, writing that she had long wanted to share her perspective.

The post comes weeks after online discussion intensified over comments widely interpreted as criticism of Sandara Park, raising concerns among fans about tensions within the group. Her latest message, however, takes a markedly different tone.

Letter highlights each member with personal praise

In the handwritten note, Park offered detailed praise for each member, beginning with leader CL (Lee Chae-rin). She described CL as a “performance genius,” emphasizing her ability to command the stage with spontaneity and presence.

Park highlighted CL’s global background and artistic versatility, noting that even her smallest gestures carry a sense of style and control. She framed CL as a central figure who elevates the overall performance quality of the group.

Turning to Gong Minzy, Park focused on her dance abilities, referring to her as a “dance master.” She also mentioned Minzy’s family background, noting her connection to the late traditional dancer Gong Ok-jin, and described feeling proud whenever watching her perform.

Park added that Minzy’s impact extends beyond Korea, claiming that international audiences quickly recognize her talent, often responding with heightened interest during overseas appearances.

The most notable shift came in her remarks about Sandara Park. Previously at the center of controversy, Sandara was described in the letter as a “princess of the Philippines,” with Park expressing admiration for her personality and role within the group.

She wrote that she had long been a fan, even recalling watching her appearances in documentaries. Park also compared Sandara’s visuals to those of late actress Kang Soo-yeon in her early career, framing the comment as a compliment.

Park further credited Sandara with contributing harmony to the team and highlighted her vocal tone, noting that their combined performances create a strong synergy. She described Sandara as consistently positive and hardworking, emphasizing her willingness to persevere regardless of circumstances.

Context of controversy and emotional tone

The letter’s release follows a period of heightened scrutiny surrounding Park’s public statements. Her earlier comments, interpreted by some as criticism toward Sandara, led to renewed discussion about internal dynamics within 2NE1.

In addressing the motivation behind the letter, Park acknowledged the emotional difficulty of writing it. She stated that the process felt unfamiliar to her personality, describing moments of hesitation while putting her thoughts into words.

At the same time, she emphasized that the message reflects long-held feelings, describing it as a “true story” she had wanted to share for over two decades. The framing suggests an attempt to recontextualize both her relationships with members and her own public narrative.

While no official statement has been issued by the group or former agency YG Entertainment, the post has quickly gained attention online, with fans closely analyzing its tone and implications.

The letter does not directly address future group activities, but its conciliatory tone has prompted cautious optimism among some fans regarding the members’ relationship. Others remain reserved, noting the absence of direct responses from the other members.

For now, Park’s handwritten message marks a notable shift in tone, moving from controversy toward reconciliation, and adding a new chapter to the long-running story of one of K-pop’s most influential girl groups.
