JK Kim Dong-wook Criticizes Ballot Shortage Incident During Korean Elections
Singer JK Kim Dong-wook has publicly voiced his frustration over the ballot shortage issues that occurred during South Korea’s 9th nationwide local elections.
On June 3, the singer shared a message on social media criticizing the official response to the incident. He argued that the explanation provided by authorities lacked accountability and questioned whether anyone intended to take responsibility for the disruption.
JK Kim Dong-wook further stated that he believes the situation warrants a special investigation into the National Election Commission. He also expressed sympathy for voters who encountered what he described as a frustrating and unrealistic experience at polling stations.
Ballot Shortages Trigger Extended Voting Hours
The controversy emerged after several polling stations in districts including Songpa District, Gangnam District, and Gwangjin District reportedly ran short of ballot papers.
To ensure that voters who had already completed voter verification could still cast their ballots, election officials extended voting hours at affected locations from the original 6 p.m. closing time until 10 p.m.
The National Election Commission has since maintained that the ballot shortage does not meet the legal conditions required to delay the election or hold a re-election.
Singer Reiterates Long-Standing Political Views
JK Kim Dong-wook has frequently shared his political opinions in public. He previously voiced opposition to the impeachment of former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol and openly supported Kim Moon-soo during the country’s recent presidential election campaign.
His latest comments have once again drawn attention online, as discussions surrounding the ballot shortage incident continue across political and social media circles.
