I.O.I has unveiled its first full-group visual ahead of its long-awaited comeback, offering fans a glimpse of the group’s chemistry nearly a decade after disbandment.

On April 22, the group released a mood film for its third mini album “I.O.I : LOOP” via official social media channels. The short clip features members dressed in colorful outfits, blending retro-inspired styling with a polished, modern aesthetic. Despite its brief runtime, each member’s individuality stands out, reinforcing the group’s signature “center lineup” appeal that once defined their rise.

The video concludes by confirming the album’s release date—May 19 at 6 p.m. KST—along with the members’ English names, signaling the start of the official comeback countdown.

A visual teaser that highlights identity and nostalgia

The mood film serves as more than a teaser; it reintroduces I.O.I’s collective identity in a contemporary context. Known for balancing distinct personalities within a unified concept, the group appears to revisit that formula while adapting to the current K-pop landscape.

Industry observers note that the visual direction leans into both nostalgia and reinvention, a strategic approach for a group returning after a prolonged hiatus. The vintage color palette paired with modern styling suggests a deliberate effort to bridge past and present, appealing to both longtime fans and newer audiences.

The comeback is particularly significant as it marks the group’s 10th anniversary. Formed through Mnet’s survival program Produce 101 in 2016, I.O.I quickly rose to prominence as a “national girl group,” releasing hits such as “Very Very Very” and “When the Cherry Blossoms Fade” during their limited promotional period.

Return after nine years with expanded activities

This release will be the group’s first new album in approximately nine years, following the official confirmation of their reunion earlier this year. The rollout began with a promotion scheduler revealed on April 21, outlining a series of teasers leading up to the album launch.

Beyond the album, I.O.I is also preparing to reconnect with fans through the “2026 I.O.I Concert Tour: LOOP.” The tour will open with a three-day run in Seoul starting May 29, before expanding to Bangkok on June 6 and Hong Kong on June 20–21, covering key Asian markets.

The scale of the project indicates a broader strategy that extends beyond a single release, positioning the reunion as both a celebratory milestone and a renewed engagement with their global fanbase.

Partial lineup confirmed as two members sit out

While the comeback has generated strong anticipation, it will proceed without two former members. Kang Mina has opted out to focus on her acting career, stating during a recent press event that she aims to concentrate on her current projects. Zhou Jieqiong is also not participating due to her ongoing activities in China.

The remaining nine members—Im Nayoung, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Kim Sohye, Yoo Yeonjung, Choi Yoojung, Kim Doyeon, and Jeon Somi—are leading the reunion effort, maintaining much of the group’s original core lineup.

Their return underscores the enduring influence of I.O.I within the K-pop industry. Despite a brief initial run, the group’s impact continues to resonate, with many members having built successful individual careers across music, acting, and entertainment.

As the release date approaches, the newly unveiled visuals signal a carefully planned comeback that balances legacy with evolution—one that aims to reaffirm I.O.I’s place in the broader narrative of K-pop’s global expansion.
