BTS member Jin has addressed his absence from the songwriting and production credits of the group’s latest full-length album, Arirang, offering insight into the circumstances behind the decision.
In an interview released on April 15 via the Rolling Stone YouTube channel, Jin revealed that he did not participate in the album’s production process.
“I haven’t shared this anywhere before, but I actually didn’t take part in the album sessions,” he said, explaining that scheduling conflicts prevented his involvement.
Scheduling conflict led to missed participation
Jin noted that the album’s recording sessions had already progressed significantly by the time he was able to join. “When I arrived where the members were working, around 100 songs had already been created,” he said. “I spent about a week to 10 days narrowing them down and recording test versions, but by then, the sessions were essentially over.”
He explained that the production schedule had been set months in advance, while his solo tour commitments had also been locked in earlier, making it difficult to align timelines. “The sessions were planned three months ahead, and my tour had already been scheduled before that,” he said.
Jin also pointed out that several members were completing military service at the time, while he was focused on engaging with fans through solo activities. “I was trying to comfort fans who might feel the absence during that period, and by then, the album was already completed,” he added.

“It was the best decision at the time”
Addressing whether he wished to have contributed to the album’s credits, Jin acknowledged mixed feelings but ultimately stood by the outcome.
“I do think it would have been nice to have some credits,” he said. “But the members did such a great job. If I had insisted on delaying the sessions for a few months, our comeback—and even this interview—would have been pushed back.”
He emphasized that timing played a key role in the group’s decision-making. “Fans might have had to wait even longer,” he said, adding, “It’s disappointing, but life isn’t just about the present. There will be future opportunities.”
Jin concluded by describing the situation as a practical choice. “At that time, it was the best decision,” he said.
Album release and fan response
BTS released its fifth full-length album Arirang on March 20, with members collaborating on the project in Los Angeles. Following the release, some fans noted Jin’s absence from the songwriting and composing credits, prompting discussion online.
The interview marks the first time Jin has directly addressed the issue. It seemed to have provided clarity on the production timeline and the group’s internal considerations.
