Kim Gun-mo Announces First New Song in 10 Years With Comeback Single
Veteran South Korean singer Kim Gun-mo is officially returning to the music scene with his first new release in a decade.
According to his agency, Kim will release a new digital single titled “Where Might You Be Now?” on July 1 at 6 p.m. KST through major streaming platforms. The track marks his first new song since the release of his 25th-anniversary album “50” in 2016, ending a 10-year gap between original releases.
The announcement comes just months after Kim completed his 2025–2026 live concert tour, which concluded with a finale performance at Seoul’s Jamsil Indoor Stadium in March.
Veteran Singer Returns After Successful Nationwide Tour
Kim’s return has been building momentum throughout the year.
His nationwide tour demonstrated that his popularity remains strong, with several concerts reportedly selling out quickly. The Busan stop, in particular, attracted attention after tickets were sold out within minutes of going on sale.
During the tour, Kim frequently hinted that he was preparing new music and spoke about approaching the next chapter of his career with a fresh mindset.
“I want to return with the same excitement and determination I had when I first debuted,” he reportedly told audiences during the tour.
Widely known as one of South Korea’s most successful solo artists, Kim built his reputation through a string of hits throughout the 1990s and 2000s, becoming one of the country’s best-selling musicians.
New Single Marks a Fresh Musical Chapter
The upcoming single is a remake of “Where Might You Be Now?”, the 1977 debut song by singer Jeon Young.
While honoring the original version, Kim is expected to bring his own interpretation to the classic track. One notable change is his decision to play guitar on the recording—a departure from the piano-centered style that has long been associated with his music.
The release also carries significance because it follows several difficult years in the singer’s personal and professional life.
In 2019, Kim became embroiled in a high-profile controversy that led him to step away from public activities. He consistently denied the allegations against him, and prosecutors later decided not to indict him in 2021. Although the legal proceedings concluded, Kim remained largely absent from the entertainment industry for several years afterward.
During recent concert appearances, he spoke candidly about the challenges of the past few years, often mixing humor with reflection.
He also referenced major life changes, including his divorce from pianist and composer Jang Ji-yeon, while expressing a desire to focus on living authentically rather than worrying about public opinion.
Now, with a new single on the horizon and a successful tour behind him, Kim Gun-mo appears ready to begin a new chapter in his long-running career.
For fans who have waited years to hear new music from one of Korea’s most recognizable voices, July 1 will mark the beginning of that long-awaited comeback.
