Former Super Junior member Kangin has returned to the music scene with a new digital single while also drawing attention for his reported role in assisting comedian Lee Jin-ho during a recent medical emergency.

According to SM Entertainment, Kangin released his single “Love Is Pain” on April 15 at 6 p.m. KST across major streaming platforms. The ballad track, which Kangin participated in writing and composing, conveys a message of gratitude toward those who remained supportive during difficult periods.

The release marks his first official musical activity in approximately seven years, signaling a formal return following a prolonged hiatus.

Emergency report brings unexpected attention

Separate from his comeback, Kangin has been identified by industry sources as the individual who first alerted emergency services during Lee Jin-ho’s recent health crisis.

On April 1, Kangin was reportedly speaking with Lee Jin-ho by phone when the call abruptly ended. After repeated failed attempts to reconnect, he contacted emergency responders, suspecting a serious situation.

Lee Jin-ho was later found to have collapsed due to symptoms consistent with a brain hemorrhage and was transported to a hospital in Seoul. He received treatment in an intensive care unit and has since regained consciousness, with reports indicating gradual improvement in his condition.

The timing of this revelation has placed Kangin in the spotlight for reasons beyond his musical return, highlighting his role in enabling a timely emergency response.

Comeback unfolds under continued public scrutiny

Kangin’s return to the industry comes after years of controversy that shaped public perception of the former idol. Debuting with Super Junior in 2005, he faced multiple legal incidents, including drunk driving cases and other disputes, which ultimately led to his departure from the group in 2019.

Despite stepping away from group activities, he maintained his contract with SM Entertainment and gradually resumed public engagement through overseas fan meetings and communication platforms in recent years.

The release of “Love Is Pain” represents a key step in reestablishing his presence as a solo artist. However, public response in South Korea remains divided. Some audiences have expressed support for his return, citing the passage of time and his renewed efforts, while others continue to question whether sufficient accountability has been demonstrated.

The added context of his involvement in Lee Jin-ho’s emergency has introduced a new dimension to the conversation, with some viewing it as a positive development amid ongoing criticism.

As Kangin resumes activities, attention is likely to remain focused on both his professional output and the broader public response to his return. Whether his latest release marks a sustained comeback may depend on how these parallel narratives evolve in the coming months.
