Mark Launches Independent Creative Label ‘Upper Room’
Former NCT member Mark has officially launched his own independent creative company, Upper Room, opening a new chapter in his career following his departure from SM Entertainment.
On June 4, Mark’s team announced that Upper Room will serve as the foundation for his future music, creative vision, and various artistic projects.
More Than a Music Label
Founded alongside longtime collaborators, Upper Room describes itself as a creative company rather than a traditional music label. The company plans to expand beyond music into visual content, performance, film, and other creative fields.
According to the announcement, the name Upper Room represents more than a physical space. It symbolizes a place where people with shared goals can gather, exchange ideas, and discover new possibilities together.

Mark Takes on a New Role
Mark will not only continue as an artist but will also take on responsibilities as a co-CEO and creator within the company.
Upper Room described the move as a significant turning point for the artist, stating that stepping away from familiar surroundings and building his own creative direction marks an important milestone both professionally and personally as he approaches his late twenties.
AI-Free Announcement Film Draws Attention
The company’s launch was accompanied by an announcement film inspired by the era of 15th-century movable metal type printing.
The project emphasized the value of human creativity in an age of rapidly evolving technology. Upper Room noted that all visuals were produced directly by creators without using AI-generated imagery, highlighting its commitment to craftsmanship and artistic authenticity.
A New Chapter After NCT
Mark debuted in 2016 as a member of NCT and became one of the group’s most recognizable figures through activities with NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and SuperM.
In April, he concluded his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment, the agency that discovered and developed him as an artist. The launch of Upper Room now signals the beginning of his first fully independent venture.
Fans are closely watching how Mark will shape his next era as both a performer and entrepreneur through the newly established creative company.
