Jungkook Addresses Controversy Over Live Broadcast

Jeon Jung-kook of BTS has issued a public apology following controversy surrounding a recent live broadcast, while also sharing his candid perspective on the situation.

On April 8, Jungkook held a live session via Weverse, where he directly addressed fans regarding the issue.

“I think I should apologize to ARMY for my recent live broadcast,” he said at the start of the stream. “Since I haven’t shown that kind of behavior before, I understand that some of you may have felt uncomfortable. I want to say I’m sorry to those who felt that way. I’ll be more careful.”

Artist Statement Balances Apology and Personal View

While expressing regret, Jungkook also clarified that he does not fully view his actions as wrongdoing.

“Personally, I’m not sure if I did something seriously wrong,” he said. “I wasn’t swearing at fans, and it’s something that can happen between friends. There are many entertainers who use such language on camera, so I don’t necessarily think it’s wrong.”

He added, “For those who are quick to criticize, I don’t have much to say. Thank you for the attention.”

The remarks highlight a dual tone—acknowledging fan discomfort while maintaining his personal stance on the incident.

The controversy dates back to February, when Jungkook conducted a live broadcast while drinking. During the stream, he used explicit language, including profanity in both Korean and English, and made a rude hand gesture toward an acquaintance.

When some viewers suggested ending the broadcast, he responded by saying, “Why are you telling me to turn it off? Don’t tell me what to do,” further fueling debate online.

Following the broadcast, reactions were divided. Some fans appreciated his candid and unfiltered demeanor, while others criticized the behavior as inappropriate for a public figure.

Fan Reactions Reflect Divided Opinions

The incident sparked widespread discussion across online communities and social media platforms. Supporters argued that the broadcast showed a more “human” side of the artist, while critics emphasized the responsibilities that come with global fame.

Industry observers note that such incidents often highlight the tension between authenticity and public expectations in K-pop.

The controversy comes amid renewed group activities, as BTS recently made a comeback with their fifth full-length album Arirang on March 20.

The group is also set to launch a new world tour under the same title, with opening concerts scheduled from April 9 to 12 at Goyang Stadium.

Jungkook’s response reflects a broader trend in the K-pop industry, where artists are increasingly communicating directly with fans in real time.

While such openness can strengthen fan relationships, it also carries risks, as unscripted moments can quickly escalate into public controversies.

Experts suggest that balancing authenticity with professionalism remains a key challenge for global K-pop stars.

As BTS prepares for its upcoming world tour, attention will remain on how Jungkook navigates public expectations moving forward.

His apology, combined with his candid remarks, may shape ongoing discussions about artist behavior, fan relationships, and the evolving standards of accountability in K-pop.
