Daesung has opened up about the intense and unexpected moments behind Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, revealing a shocking theft incident that unfolded during the group’s recent U.S. appearance.
In a video released on his YouTube channel Zip Daesung on May 1, the BIGBANG member reflected on performing at the globally renowned festival in Indio, California, alongside fellow members.
Daesung shared that the group’s return to the stage as a three-member unit was met with positive reactions. “Thankfully, many people responded well, and I performed with a grateful heart,” he said, addressing the significance of the comeback stage.
He also spoke about his unconventional song choice during the performance, which stood out even by Coachella standards. Referring to his trot selection, he explained, “I simply wanted to show something only I could do. There was no grand intention like promoting national prestige.”
Coachella chaos: stolen passport sparks emergency
Beyond the stage, however, the trip took a dramatic turn. Daesung revealed that their accommodation was broken into during their stay.
“Our lodging was burglarized. My manager’s bag and passport were stolen,” he said, describing the situation as urgent and stressful.
The incident forced the team into emergency measures. “We had to issue a temporary passport to return home. It was a very tense situation,” he added.
He also recalled a similar past experience, mentioning a previous theft during a trip to Hawaii when a car window was smashed. The repeated incidents led him to jokingly refer to his history as a “passport theft saga.”
Emotional reunion with G-Dragon
Despite the chaos, the trip also carried emotional meaning. Daesung highlighted his time spent with fellow member G-Dragon, describing it in sentimental terms.
“It felt like a ‘remind wedding’ or even a honeymoon, similar to our trip to Hawaii 10 years ago,” he said, emphasizing the deep bond between the members.
