Veteran K-pop group BIGBANG marked its 20th debut anniversary with a headline-grabbing performance at one of the world’s largest music festivals, delivering a set that highlighted both its legacy and continued global appeal.

The group took the stage on April 12 (local time) at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, appearing at the Outdoor Theatre as the final act of the night. The performance marked BIGBANG’s first appearance at the festival and coincided with a milestone year since their debut in 2006.

Anniversary stage draws global attention

Opening with a cosmic-themed visual sequence, members G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung launched into “BANG BANG BANG,” immediately energizing the crowd with live vocals and synchronized performance.

Following the opening track, G-Dragon delivered the group’s signature introduction chant, prompting a strong response from the audience, including Korean-language cheers from international fans.

The set drew significant anticipation even before it began, with viewers gathering on the festival’s official livestream channel and leaving comments referring to BIGBANG as “King of K-pop,” reflecting the group’s enduring reputation.

Genre-spanning setlist reinforces legacy

Over the course of approximately one hour, BIGBANG performed 17 tracks, reworking many of their signature songs into updated arrangements. The setlist moved across genres including EDM, R&B, reggae, and funk, showcasing the group’s versatility and production influence.

Songs such as “FANTASTIC BABY,” “LOSER,” and “Lies” were presented alongside solo and unit stages, creating a dynamic flow that blended nostalgia with contemporary staging.

One of the notable moments came during Daesung’s solo segment, where he performed trot-influenced tracks in front of an international audience. The unexpected inclusion of the genre—rarely seen on global festival stages—prompted a strong reaction from the crowd and added a distinctly Korean element to the performance.

Meanwhile, G-Dragon, who had recently faced scrutiny over vocal condition during solo appearances, delivered a stable performance alongside Taeyang and Daesung, with the trio maintaining consistent harmonies throughout the set.

Emotional finale and future plans teased

The performance concluded with “Still Life,” a track released in 2022 that carries particular significance for the group’s lineup history. During the stage, the members incorporated recorded vocals from former member T.O.P, creating a moment that acknowledged the group’s past while focusing on its present formation.

BIGBANG originally debuted as a five-member group, but has since undergone lineup changes following high-profile departures. Despite this, the Coachella stage emphasized continuity through music and shared history.

Before leaving the stage, G-Dragon addressed the audience, stating that the group’s 20th anniversary has only just begun and hinting at upcoming projects. He asked fans to look forward to future plans, fueling speculation about potential releases or events tied to the milestone year.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which runs from April 10 to 19, draws hundreds of thousands of attendees annually and serves as a major platform for global artists. This year’s lineup also included other Korean acts, reflecting the continued expansion of K-pop within the international festival circuit.

BIGBANG is scheduled to perform once more at the festival on April 19, extending its anniversary celebrations on a global stage.
