Kim Geon-woo to Pause Activities Following Controversy

ALPHA DRIVE ONE member Kim Geon-woo will temporarily suspend group activities after controversy surrounding his past remarks, his agency confirmed.

On April 8, WakeOne issued an official statement apologizing for the delayed response and outlining the circumstances behind the issue. The agency acknowledged shortcomings in managing the artist and emphasized its responsibility in ensuring proper conduct.

The incident stems from comments made during a pre-debut content filming. According to the agency, Kim was unaware that his microphone was still on when he expressed dissatisfaction using inappropriate language. WakeOne clarified that the remarks were not directed at a specific individual and were more akin to a private mutter, but admitted that the language used was “inappropriate under any circumstances.”

Agency Clarifies Timeline and Denies Additional Allegations

WakeOne stated that Kim had apologized to staff immediately after the incident and that the matter was initially considered resolved through communication with the production team. The agency chose not to issue a public statement at the time to avoid placing additional burden on those involved.

However, as the issue resurfaced online with what the company described as “distorted claims,” the process of verifying facts led to delays in releasing an official position.

“The additional allegations currently circulating online are not true,” the agency said, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information. It also admitted that the delay in communication reflected “a clear lack of judgment” on its part.

Following internal discussions, Kim decided to take time for self-reflection. As a result, he will not participate in upcoming schedules, including planned promotions and fan concerts. ALPHA DRIVE ONE will continue activities as a seven-member group for the time being.

WakeOne added that previously recorded content may still be released as scheduled.

Kim Geon-woo Issues Personal Apology to Fans and Staff

Kim also shared a handwritten letter expressing remorse for his actions. He apologized to fans, fellow members, and staff, stating that his “immature behavior” had caused concern and disappointment.

“I feel deeply regretful for showing a side of myself that goes against my promise to repay the support I’ve received,” he wrote, reflecting on his actions.

He further acknowledged his shortcomings, saying the incident made him realize “how careless and lacking” he had been. Kim pledged to act with greater responsibility in the future and emphasized his intention to take time to reflect and return as a more mature individual.

WakeOne noted that it is reviewing its internal communication and artist management systems to prevent similar issues from recurring. The agency stated it would strengthen training and support measures while improving response processes for future situations.

The company concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting ALPHA DRIVE ONE, describing the group as “a team moving toward a shared dream,” and asked for continued support from fans.

As rookie groups increasingly face scrutiny in the digital age, the incident highlights the growing importance of communication, accountability, and proactive management in the K-pop industry.
