I.O.I Makes Long-Awaited Return After 9 Years With Emotional Reunion Album ‘LOOP’
Legendary K-pop project girl group I.O.I has officially returned to the music scene after nearly nine years, marking one of the most emotional reunions in recent K-pop memory.
The group released its third mini album I.O.I : LOOP on May 19 at 6 p.m. KST through major online music platforms, signaling the beginning of a long-awaited new chapter ahead of the group’s upcoming 10th debut anniversary.
Despite the lengthy hiatus, the reunion album reflects the strong bond that has continued to connect the members over the years. Having each built successful individual careers across music, acting, and entertainment, the members reunited to create an album that captures both nostalgia and artistic growth.
Ahead of the comeback, I.O.I heightened anticipation by unveiling an audio snippet teaser through social media. The teaser featured six track highlights layered over analog film projector visuals, creating a sentimental atmosphere that resonated deeply with longtime fans.

The album’s title track, Suddenly, is a synth-pop song that explores memories and emotions that unexpectedly resurface over time. Member Jeon Somi personally participated in writing the lyrics, weaving together themes of reunion, longing, and the emotional journey the group has shared since debut.
The dreamy outro section in particular is expected to leave a lasting impression on listeners, emphasizing the bittersweet mood surrounding the group’s reunion.
The album also highlights the members’ increased creative involvement. Opening track IOI (Where My Girls At), which also credits Jeon Somi, delivers the group’s signature refreshing energy through upbeat house-inspired production.
Another standout track, SPF 100+ (Summer Pop Fantasy), incorporates Afrobeat influences and playful summer imagery, showcasing the group’s expanded musical range.
The emotional core of the album continues through several member-driven tracks. Yoo Yeonjung participated in the rock-inspired song IF I, which expresses the group’s unchanging connection through powerful band sounds and heartfelt lyrics.
Meanwhile, Chungha contributed to the ballad Back Then, Us Now, described as a spiritual continuation of I.O.I’s beloved hit Downpour. The song combines gentle piano melodies and orchestral strings to portray the warmth and comfort of reuniting after years apart.
The album closes with Goodbye With a Smile (Recorded in 2016), a previously unreleased archive recording produced by Jinyoung. Featuring the members’ youthful voices from their rookie days, the track serves as both a nostalgic farewell and a symbolic bridge toward I.O.I’s new beginning.

Fans Looking for Upcoming Seoul Concerts
Alongside the album release, I.O.I is also preparing to reconnect with fans in person through their upcoming concert series. The group will kick off the 2026 I.O.I Concert Tour: LOOP from May 29 to 31 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul.
For many fans who have waited nearly a decade to see the members together again, I.O.I’s return is more than a comeback — it is the revival of one of K-pop’s most beloved and defining project groups.
