Kim Jaejoong Reflects on TVXQ Reunion Possibilities
Singer and actor Kim Jaejoong has shared his thoughts on the possibility of a TVXQ reunion, acknowledging fans’ continued hopes while emphasizing the realities that come with the passage of time.
Speaking during a press interview in Seoul on June 16 for his upcoming film The Shrine: Whisper of the Evil Spirit, Jaejoong addressed the recent buzz surrounding his performance of TVXQ’s iconic hit “Mirotic” (“Jumun”), which sparked a wave of nostalgic reactions online.
“The Original Hits Different”
The veteran star laughed when asked about fans commenting that “the original is different” after hearing him perform the song again.
“I’ve seen the reactions,” Jaejoong said. “I work in entertainment, so of course I pay attention to them.”
He added, “The people who first recorded a song are always special. After all, you’re the one who originally studied it, shaped it, and brought it to life.”
Jaejoong jokingly remarked that he still considers himself the most special person to perform the song because it was originally recorded with his own voice.
The performance quickly went viral among longtime K-pop fans, many of whom reminisced about TVXQ’s early years and the group’s enormous impact on the second generation of K-pop.
Responding to Reunion Speculation
The conversation eventually turned to a topic that has fascinated fans for years: a potential TVXQ reunion.
Jaejoong acknowledged that he has seen the growing number of comments calling for the group’s members to reunite.
“I’ve seen those reactions too,” he said. “Fans who loved us back then naturally have those memories and dreams.”
However, he suggested that reality is far more complicated than nostalgia alone.
“Everyone Has Changed and Grown”
While not ruling out the emotional significance of a reunion, Jaejoong explained that each member has spent years building separate careers and identities.
“It’s difficult,” he admitted. “Over time, everyone has grown and changed. The years have become longer, and what each person has built now carries more weight than before.”
He stressed that those individual journeys deserve respect.
“That’s something we have to respect,” he said, carefully choosing his words.
Jaejoong also noted that he is not in a position to speak on behalf of the other former members.
“I can’t really say anything about a reunion,” he explained. “The others probably can’t speak about it easily either.”
Still, he reassured fans that their voices have not gone unnoticed.
“We see the reactions. We know what fans are saying.”

From TVXQ to Entrepreneur and Actor
Jaejoong debuted as a member of TVXQ in 2003 before leaving the group in 2010 and later continuing his career with JYJ.
Since then, he has built a successful solo career while also establishing Incode Entertainment, where he now mentors and develops younger artists.
His latest project marks another major milestone in his acting career.
Returning to the Big Screen After 14 Years
Jaejoong stars in the upcoming occult horror film The Shrine: Whisper of the Evil Spirit, which premieres exclusively through CGV theaters on June 17.
The film follows a mysterious supernatural case involving three university students who disappear after visiting an abandoned shrine in Kobe, Japan. Jaejoong plays Myung-jin, a shaman who investigates the strange events and confronts a powerful evil spirit.
Directed by Japanese filmmaker Kazuyoshi Kumakiri, the movie marks Jaejoong’s first feature film role since Code Name: Jackal in 2012, ending a 14-year absence from the big screen.
While fans continue dreaming of a TVXQ reunion, Jaejoong’s comments suggest that, for now, his focus remains on new challenges—both as an actor and as a mentor shaping the next generation of K-pop talent.
