BTS leader RM has added another remarkable achievement to his growing list of cultural contributions, becoming the first-ever global ambassador in the history of Korea’s National Museum.
On June 19, the National Museum of Korea officially appointed RM as its inaugural global ambassador, a move that highlights the artist’s long-standing passion for Korean art, history, and cultural heritage.
The announcement was made through the museum’s official Instagram account on June 20, drawing enthusiastic reactions from fans and culture enthusiasts alike.
RM Explores Major Museum Exhibitions
As part of his appointment, RM toured several key exhibitions alongside National Museum of Korea Director General Yu Hong-jun.
During the visit, he explored the upcoming special exhibition “Amazing Thailand: Art Treasures from Thailand” as well as the themed exhibition “Danwon Kim Hong-do: Painting the Spirit of His Time.”
The museum said RM spent time viewing a wide range of exhibitions and cultural artifacts housed within the institution.
Promoting Korean Heritage to a Global Audience
According to museum officials, RM’s deep appreciation for Korean culture and heritage made him a natural choice for the role.
“RM has consistently shown great interest and affection for Korea’s cultural heritage and culture,” the museum stated. “As our global ambassador, he will help share the value and beauty of Korean cultural heritage with audiences around the world.”
The museum also emphasized its commitment to connecting Korea with the global community through culture and art, enabling more people to experience the country’s rich heritage.
RM Shares His Excitement
Following the appointment, RM expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
“I am very honored and happy. I hope to help more people discover the beauty and value of our cultural heritage.”
Director General Yu Hong-jun also welcomed the collaboration.
“It is meaningful to work together with RM to share the beauty of Korea’s cultural heritage with the world. I believe he will play an important role in helping the National Museum of Korea become a museum loved by people globally.”

RM’s appointment comes as little surprise to those familiar with his long-standing interest in art and cultural preservation.
The BTS star is known for frequently visiting museums and exhibitions both in Korea and abroad. In 2020, he donated 100 million won to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to support art education and encourage public engagement with art books.
He also donated 100 million won each in 2021 and 2022 to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and researching Korean cultural assets located overseas.
Beyond philanthropy, RM has built a reputation as a serious art collector with a deep appreciation for contemporary and traditional works.
What’s Next for RM?
Adding to his growing influence in the art world, RM is reportedly preparing a special exhibition of works from his personal collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), scheduled for October this year.
As one of the most globally recognized Korean artists, RM’s new role is expected to bring unprecedented international attention to Korea’s cultural heritage and museum community.
For many fans, the appointment represents another example of how the BTS leader continues to bridge the worlds of music, art, and cultural diplomacy on the global stage.
