South Korean singer and actress Nana appeared in court to testify in a home intrusion case, directly confronting the defendant accused of breaking into her residence and attempting robbery with violence.

The hearing, held on April 21 at the Uijeongbu District Court’s Namyangju branch, marked the third trial session involving the suspect, identified only as A (34). Nana and her mother attended as witnesses, recounting the events of the November 2025 incident that left both injured.

Victim testimony details violent confrontation

According to court proceedings, the defendant is accused of entering Nana’s home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, in the early hours of November 15, armed with a weapon and attempting to extort money. The attempt ultimately failed after a physical struggle with Nana and her mother.

Taking the stand, Nana described the moment she encountered the intruder. “When I came out after hearing a noise, he was strangling my mother, and there was a knife beside him,” she testified. She explained that the suspect initially did not notice her approach, allowing her to intervene before a struggle broke out.

During the altercation, Nana said she and the suspect grappled over the weapon. She added that at one point, she managed to injure the attacker while defending herself. The situation escalated into a prolonged standoff, during which she and her mother attempted to de-escalate the situation and persuade the intruder to drop the knife.

Her mother’s testimony corroborated the account, stating she awoke to the sound of their dog barking and encountered the suspect entering through the balcony with a weapon. She described being choked from behind and nearly losing consciousness before regaining awareness and joining Nana in subduing the attacker.

Both submitted medical reports indicating injuries requiring over a month of recovery.

Defendant denies charges amid courtroom tension

The defendant has denied the allegations, claiming he entered the residence with the intent to commit theft and was unarmed. He further alleged that he was assaulted by Nana and that her injuries were not defensive but inflicted during the altercation.

Tensions in the courtroom were evident as Nana confronted the defendant directly. Upon seeing him, she reportedly said, “Look me in the eye. Is this amusing to you?” Her emotional response underscored the lingering impact of the incident.

During cross-examination, the defense questioned Nana’s mother about a phone call made using her mobile phone to the defendant’s number, suggesting it may have been related to a financial agreement. She rejected the claim, stating the call was made to confirm personal details mentioned during the confrontation.

The trial, initially scheduled to be partially closed, proceeded publicly after Nana’s side reversed its request for a private hearing.

Lasting trauma and legal implications

In her closing remarks, Nana spoke candidly about the psychological toll of the incident. “I thought I was fine, but it feels like trauma has stayed with me,” she said. “I no longer feel safe at home. Even opening the door for deliveries makes me anxious.”

She also expressed frustration over the prolonged legal process, describing it as a continuation of harm. “It feels like repeated victimization,” she said, while adding that she hopes the defendant reflects on his actions.

Separately, the defendant filed a counter-complaint accusing Nana of attempted murder and aggravated assault. However, authorities previously dismissed the claims, determining that her actions constituted self-defense.

The court is expected to continue proceedings next month, with a sentencing date to be scheduled following additional hearings.
