Rookie girl group UNCHILD officially stepped into the spotlight on April 21, holding a debut showcase in Seoul for its first single “We Are UNCHILD,” marking the launch of a new act backed by hit producer Rado.
The six-member group—Hiki, Tina, Na Haeun, Park Yeeun, Ako and Yvon—introduced themselves at Blue Square in Hannam-dong, presenting both their musical direction and team identity ahead of the single’s official release later that day.
Debut shaped by pre-launch attention and resilience
Even before debut, UNCHILD had drawn attention due to the presence of Na Haeun, widely known as a former child dance prodigy, and Park Yeeun, who gained recognition through the survival program I-LAND 2. Both members addressed their journeys during the showcase, emphasizing growth and perseverance.
Na Haeun reflected on her transition from solo performances to group activities, saying she had long dreamed of dancing alongside others. “I used to film dance covers alone, so practicing and performing with members makes me really happy,” she said, adding that receiving the team name felt like reaching a long-awaited destination.
Park Yeeun spoke candidly about setbacks following her elimination from a survival show, describing a period of uncertainty before joining the agency. “I went through a difficult time, but thanks to the company and members, I regained confidence,” she said, noting that standing on stage with the group felt deeply meaningful.
The group’s formation under Rado—known for producing chart-topping hits—has also positioned UNCHILD as a notable rookie act within the industry, drawing comparisons to previous successful projects.

Concept and sound define group identity
The name “UNCHILD” reflects the group’s intent to break away from conventions, using the prefix “UN-” to signal a rejection of predefined norms. This concept extends into their creative direction, which reimagines familiar school imagery as “PUNK SCHOOL,” highlighting Gen Z’s free-spirited and unconventional energy.
Their debut single “We Are UNCHILD” introduces that identity with a clear message: a refusal to conform. The title track “UNCHILD” is an electronic pop song built on a garage-inspired sound, featuring gritty guitar riffs and psychedelic elements. Its repeated hook reinforces the group’s branding while delivering a confident narrative about overcoming fear and embracing new challenges.
Rado participated in the track’s production, shaping a sound tailored to the group’s strengths. Members Na Haeun and Hiki also contributed to choreography, incorporating signature moves such as a “door-opening” gesture symbolizing new beginnings and a dynamic dance break designed to highlight performance intensity.
Performance focus and future ambitions
Beyond the title track, the single includes “ENERGY,” a house-based song that captures the excitement of encountering a new world. The track emphasizes rhythm and synth-driven melodies, aligning with the group’s focus on delivering high-impact performances.
During the showcase, the members repeatedly highlighted teamwork as their core strength. They expressed confidence in their ability to connect with audiences through eye contact and synchronized stage presence, describing their chemistry as a defining element of their performances.
“We want to be a team that feels unfamiliar at first but becomes something people keep wanting to watch,” the group said, outlining an ambition to stand out through individuality while maintaining strong unity.
UNCHILD officially released “We Are UNCHILD” at 6 p.m. on the same day, beginning its promotional activities as one of the latest additions to the new generation of K-pop girl groups. Industry watchers will be closely observing whether the group can translate early attention into sustained momentum in an increasingly competitive market.
