SHINee member Taemin took the stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with a set that balanced new material and established hits, though a mid-performance technical issue briefly disrupted the flow.

Performing on April 12 (Korea time) at the Mojave Stage in Indio, California, Taemin delivered a 50-minute solo set, marking a milestone as the first Korean male solo artist to hold an official solo stage at the festival.

Setlist blends signature hits with unreleased tracks

Taemin opened with a sequence of high-energy tracks including “Sexy In The Air,” “WANT,” and an unreleased song, setting the tone for a performance that alternated between familiar material and new music. He followed with fan-favorite tracks such as “MOVE,” “Guilty,” and “Heaven,” maintaining a steady build in intensity.

As the set progressed, the focus shifted toward new material. Taemin introduced a total of six unreleased tracks, using the latter half of the performance to preview his upcoming project. A wardrobe change—from an all-white outfit to a yellow shirt and khaki-toned suit—mirrored the transition in mood.

The performance emphasized continuity over commentary, with minimal spoken segments and a strong focus on choreography and musical progression.

Performance steadiness contrasts with technical disruption

Taemin’s stage once again highlighted his ability to sustain live vocals while executing physically demanding choreography. Even as his movements intensified, his vocal delivery remained stable, particularly during the closing sections of “Guilty,” where he added powerful ad-libs.

However, a technical issue affected part of the set. During “IDEA,” the live broadcast feed briefly cut out for approximately eight seconds, interrupting the online viewing experience. This was followed by about a minute of unstable sound transmission before the audio fully returned to normal.

The disruption occurred at a key moment in the performance, briefly affecting immersion for viewers. Despite this, Taemin continued without pause, maintaining composure and regaining momentum once the issue was resolved.

Audience reactions highlight both praise and frustration

Following the performance, online reactions reflected a mix of admiration and disappointment. Some viewers noted the timing of the disruption, with comments pointing out that the interruption came at a critical point in the set.

Others emphasized the overall quality of the performance, highlighting Taemin’s live vocals and stage control. Comments such as “It would have been perfect without the sound issue” and “The performance still proves Taemin’s level” circulated across platforms.

Taemin later shared a brief message during the set, saying he had been waiting for the moment and was glad to share it with the audience, underscoring the significance of the appearance.

His participation in Coachella continues on April 18 (local time), where he is scheduled for a second performance. This year’s festival lineup includes multiple K-pop acts, reflecting the genre’s expanding role on global stages.

Despite the technical setback, Taemin’s set reinforced his reputation as a seasoned performer, capable of delivering a cohesive stage under challenging live conditions while introducing new artistic direction.
