NewJeans appears to be moving toward a long-awaited return, more than a year after activities came to a halt amid legal disputes and internal restructuring.
Following their 2024 announcement to terminate exclusive contracts and the subsequent legal battle with ADOR, the group has undergone a turbulent period marked by court rulings, shifting member dynamics, and a prolonged hiatus. Now, recent public sightings and gradual activity updates suggest that a comeback may be on the horizon.
Lineup uncertainty continues amid restructuring
NewJeans, originally a five-member group, faced a major turning point less than four years into their career. After the dispute with ADOR escalated, the court ultimately ruled in favor of the agency, affirming the validity of the contracts.
In the aftermath, members began signaling their return in stages. However, the process was not without complications. Danielle was later notified of contract termination by the agency, effectively removing her from the team, while Minji’s status remains unclear.
As a result, the group is currently expected to reorganize around four members—Hyein, Haerin, Hanni, and potentially Minji—though even a three-member configuration has been speculated. The uncertainty has raised questions about the group’s identity and future direction.
Signs of movement spark comeback speculation
Despite the uncertainty, recent developments point to renewed activity. ADOR has begun reorganizing official channels, replacing group profile images with logo-centric visuals and updating platform information to reflect a revised lineup excluding Danielle.
Meanwhile, members have started reappearing in public. Sightings of Hyein, Haerin, and Hanni in Copenhagen drew attention, with ADOR confirming that the trio had traveled to Denmark with staff. The nature of the trip remains undisclosed, but speculation has grown that it may be linked to comeback preparations rather than a simple break.
Hyein further fueled anticipation by visiting a fan-organized birthday café on April 21, where she reportedly expressed gratitude and appeared visibly emotional. ADOR also acknowledged her birthday through official social media, signaling a gradual return to public engagement.

Industry watches pivotal comeback moment
Compared to the group’s previous silence, these recent appearances mark a notable shift. The combination of social media updates, member sightings, and agency activity has led industry observers to closely monitor the timeline for a potential comeback.
ADOR had previously indicated that preparations for a full-length album were already underway during the legal dispute, adding weight to speculation that the group may return sooner rather than later.
However, challenges remain. Beyond lineup adjustments, NewJeans must also navigate public perception shaped by the prolonged dispute and internal changes. Rebuilding both team cohesion and fan trust will be key factors in their next phase.
As NewJeans begins to move again after a prolonged pause, their upcoming return is shaping up to be more than just a comeback—it may redefine the group’s identity and trajectory in the global K-pop landscape.
