Girls’ Generation member Hyoyeon has revealed that she continues to live in the group’s dorm nearly two decades after debut, offering a rare glimpse into her long-standing lifestyle.

The revelation came during her appearance on JTBC’s variety show Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, where she appeared alongside fellow member Tiffany Young.

Hyoyeon explains why she stayed in the dorm

During the broadcast, Hyoyeon confirmed that she has been living in the dorm for 19 years, even after the other members moved out and established their own residences.

Explaining her decision, she cited both convenience and comfort. “My family home is in Songdo, but it’s easier to manage my schedule from here. Most importantly, meals are taken care of. There’s no better place,” she said.

Her comments highlighted a practical approach to maintaining a familiar living environment while continuing her entertainment activities.

Long-time staff adds sense of stability

A key factor in her decision is the presence of a long-time housekeeper who has been with the group since their early years. Hyoyeon shared that the staff member has been working with her since middle school, preparing meals tailored to her preferences.

“If I tell her what I want to eat, she makes it for me. My favorite is seasoned dried squid,” she added, referring to a popular Korean side dish.

The continuity of care appears to have contributed significantly to her decision to remain in the dorm, even as her career and personal life evolved.

Lighthearted moments with Tiffany draw attention

The episode also featured humorous exchanges between Hyoyeon and Tiffany. Tiffany revealed that Hyoyeon is often slow to respond in group chats, jokingly calling her the “icon of no communication” within the group.

Hyoyeon admitted that she tends to skip messages when they become too long, saying she focuses only on key points, which sometimes leads to misunderstandings.

The conversation also touched on future plans, with Tiffany hinting that preparations for the group’s upcoming 20th anniversary are already underway. Hyoyeon acknowledged she may have missed earlier updates, offering a lighthearted apology during the show.

Debuting in 2007, Girls’ Generation remains one of K-pop’s most influential groups, known for hits such as “Gee,” “Genie,” and “Lion Heart.” Hyoyeon’s continued dorm life reflects a unique aspect of her career, blending long-term routine with the evolving dynamics of a veteran idol group.
