The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has revealed its 2025 Global Music Report, and the results show K‑pop’s overwhelming dominance.

Seven of the world’s top ten best‑selling albums last year were by K‑pop stars, cementing the genre’s position as a global powerhouse.

Stray Kids’ KARMA ranked #2 on the Global Album Sales Chart, followed by SEVENTEEN’s Happy Burstday at #3 and ENHYPEN’s Desire: Unleash at #4. TXT’s The Name Chapter: Together took #6.

The others included Zerobaseone’s Never Say Never landed at #7, IVE’s IVE Empathy at #9, and G‑Dragon’s Ubermensch at #10.

The only non‑K‑pop album in the Top 10 was Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, which claimed the #1 spot.

The Top 20 also featured NCT Wish (Color, #11; Pop Pop, #17), Zerobaseone (Blue Paradise, #12), &TEAM (Back to Life, #13), RIIZE (Odyssey, #15), aespa (Rich Man, #16), BoyNextDoor (No Genre, #18), and IVE (IVE Secret, #20).

On the streaming‑inclusive Global Album Chart, Netflix’s K‑pop Demon Hunters OST ranked #3, while Stray Kids’ KARMA placed #6, SEVENTEEN’s Happy Burstday #12, ENHYPEN’s Desire: Unleash #16, and BLACKPINK’s Rosé with Rosie at #19.

Stray Kids stood out with a historic achievement: they were the only K‑pop act to enter IFPI’s Global Artist Chart Top 10, ranking #2 overall.

Their streak of four consecutive years on the Global Album Chart—MAXIDENT (2022), ★★★★★ (5‑STAR) and 樂‑STAR (2023), ATE (2024), and now KARMA (2025)—underscores their consistency.

Alongside their Billboard 200 record of eight consecutive #1 entries and the massive dominATE world tour, Stray Kids have solidified their reputation as leaders of the K‑pop wave.

Looking ahead, Stray Kids will host their sixth official fan meeting STAY in Our Little House in Incheon this spring, before headlining major festivals including New York’s Governors Ball and Brazil’s Rock in Rio later in 2026.

Cultural Implications

K‑pop’s dominance in IFPI’s charts is more than a commercial success—it reflects a cultural shift in global music consumption.

  • Globalization of Korean culture: K‑pop’s rise amplifies the Korean Wave (Hallyu), spreading language, fashion, and aesthetics worldwide.
  • Redefining fandom culture: The passionate, organized fanbases of K‑pop groups have reshaped how artists interact with audiences, influencing Western acts to adopt similar engagement strategies.
  • Hybrid model of success: By combining physical album sales, streaming, merchandise, and immersive fan experiences, K‑pop challenges traditional Western music business models.
  • Cultural diplomacy: K‑pop’s global reach strengthens South Korea’s soft power, positioning it as a cultural leader alongside the U.S. and Europe.
