Mark Lee has officially announced his departure from NCT, and his emotional message to fans is quickly drawing mixed reactions online.
On April 6, Mark took to a paid fan communication platform to personally address fans following the news. “I really wanted to tell you myself first, but this wasn’t something I could decide on my own… you must have been very surprised, right?” he wrote.
He continued with a softer message, acknowledging fans’ feelings. “It must have been a hectic and difficult weekend. It’s already Monday again… let’s stay strong together. I’m sorry and thank you,” he added, promising to return soon.
The message came just days after SM Entertainment confirmed that Mark’s exclusive contract had ended and that he would be leaving all NCT activities, including units like NCT 127 and NCT DREAM.
Following his departure, NCT’s units are expected to continue with reorganized lineups. NCT 127 will proceed as a seven-member group, while NCT DREAM will promote with six members.
Mark also shared a handwritten letter reflecting on his 10-year journey since debuting on April 9, 2016. He revealed that he now wants to explore his own musical path, including long-held dreams like busking and writing.

“I want to properly find my own musical direction,” he shared, while also expressing deep gratitude to fans. “Thank you for letting me live as a happy person for the past 10 years.”
He acknowledged the shock surrounding his sudden departure, adding that he understands the change may be difficult for fans. Still, he promised to never forget his beginnings and the support he received throughout his career.
Fan reactions have been sharply divided. While many expressed support and wished him well on his new journey, others criticized the situation, calling the response “immature” or “disappointing.”
The news has also resurfaced speculation from recent performances, particularly during “THE DREAM SHOW 4: THE FUTURE” finale, where Mark appeared visibly emotional on stage.
As one of NCT’s core members for nearly a decade, his exit marks a major turning point—not just for the group, but for fans who have followed his journey since debut.
For now, attention is turning to what comes next, as Mark steps into a new chapter of his career.
