Global K-pop group BTS has officially launched its highly anticipated “Arirang” world tour, marking the group’s first full-group concert series in four years.

The tour opened on April 9 at Goyang Stadium in South Korea, where all seven members reunited on stage in front of a sold-out crowd of approximately 50,000 fans. Despite cold and rainy weather, the venue was filled to capacity, underscoring the group’s enduring global popularity, according to news reports.

Stadium opener signals full-group return

The opening concert carried particular significance as it marked BTS’s return as a complete group following a prolonged hiatus in group activities. The production featured a 360-degree open stage positioned at the center of the stadium, eliminating blind spots and allowing fans from all sections to engage with the performance.

The setlist included tracks from their latest album “Arirang,” alongside a selection of the group’s major hits, with fans singing along throughout the show. The production incorporated elements of Korean culture, blending traditional motifs with large-scale stage design to create a visually cohesive performance.

International fans traveled from across the globe to attend the opening shows, with many sharing emotional reactions. Amanda, a fan from Indonesia, told SBS that she attended the concert with her daughter, adding, “I feel so happy they’re back. Watching them perform together makes me feel at peace.”

Another fan, Akhila from South Africa, who planned to attend multiple shows, described the experience as deeply meaningful in an interview with KBS. “I’ll be here for seven days and attending all three concerts. Learning the meaning behind ‘Arirang’ made it even more special,” she was quoted as saying.

Valeria, a fan from Russia attending her first BTS concert, expressed excitement after years of waiting. “It’s already been four years. Just seeing them sing, dance, and connect with each other is so thrilling,” she told KBS.

Global scale and economic ripple effects

BTS plans to perform a total of 85 shows across 34 cities worldwide, making “Arirang” one of the largest tours in K-pop history. Of the announced dates, 46 shows have already sold out, with additional stops under consideration in regions including the Middle East and Japan.

The scale of the tour is expected to generate significant economic impact in each host city. Industry analysts have drawn comparisons to major global tours such as those by Taylor Swift, noting the potential for large-scale tourism and local spending driven by concertgoers.

In Goyang, northwest of Seoul, nearby hotels and businesses reported increased demand, with international fans filling accommodations even without secured tickets. Merchandise sales also reflected strong demand, as fans purchased official light sticks and commemorative items ahead of the show.

Cultural impact extends beyond music

Beyond its commercial scale, the “Arirang” tour is being viewed as a cultural milestone. Observers point to BTS’s role in expanding global awareness of K-pop and Korean culture, with the tour expected to further strengthen that influence.

Fans, known as ARMY, arrived at the venue wearing coordinated outfits, including customized hanbok-inspired clothing and accessories themed around the group. The signature purple light sticks created a unified visual across the stadium, reinforcing the group’s connection with its global fanbase.

Following the Seoul concerts, BTS will continue the tour in Tokyo before expanding to North America, Europe, and other regions. With millions of fans expected to attend worldwide, anticipation remains high for what is shaping up to be one of the most significant global tours in K-pop history.

As BTS resumes large-scale touring, the “Arirang” project stands as both a celebration of their past achievements and a signal of their continued presence at the forefront of the global music industry.
